SPOT Emergency Messenger

Hi:
Has anyone seen this before?

SPOT. The World’s First Satellite Messenger.
With the SPOT Satellite Messenger, you and your loved ones have peace of mind knowing help is always within reach. SPOT is the only device of its kind, using the GPS satellite network to acquire its coordinates, and then sending its location – with a link to Google Maps™ – and a pre-programmed message via a commercial satellite network. And unlike Personal Locator Beacons, SPOT does more than just call for help. Tracking your progress, checking in with loved ones, and non-emergency assistance are also available, all at the push of a button. And because it uses 100% satellite technology, SPOT works around the world – even where cell phones don't.
A couple of these for sweep rides during our organized events could be helpful.

Kevin Burnett of Rally Connex uses one. Some of the participants in last years Paris-Dacre "Dual Sport Challenge" used them as well. We would need a communications coordinator (Weatherman?) to stay on the internet and land lines to make this work for us but it is well worth looking into.

I bought one last year , works OK , needs 10min at least to send location via email, have not used it for trailriding yet , but sure works fine in the car.
Device is $180 cdn , one year subscription is about $150 us, kinda neet , ties in with Google earth , idiot proof for the recepient of email, he gets a link and bingo ,location pops up
