Observed Trial Sept 26

Sunday Sept 26, near Watson's Corners, starting at 11.30 sharp -- CVMG/BMA Observed Trial. This is our 25th year and we have a really good layout that offers lines for novice riders right through to A+ monoshock competitors. Ten sections, four laps (three if it rains!), the total loop is about one mile. Lots of room for practice prior to the start; score yourself, or trade cards with a friend. $5 entry fee for CMA insurance. This is a good event for spectators as most walking is along the edge of open fields and there is no deep water (for spectators). Lots of fun for photographers! All trials bikes welcome. For a map, contact David.Makin@ncf.ca.

Thanks to the BMA, CVMG, and many volunteers for the past 25 years of support for this event.

Lanark Trial Results

We had an ideal fall trials day with cool weather and at most a threat of rain that held off until the awards presentation. The turnout was very good with 21 riders and many spectators. The sections proved very popular, with good C lines for older machines or new riders, right up to very challenging "A+" line for expert riders on monoshocks. Good scores demanded intelligent reading of the terrain; in some cases, the "A" line was easier than the "B" line, but visually more challenging. We freely admit to an "A+" line in section 6 that we expected to prevent zero scores; this involved a tight turn over a sharp - edged rock onto a large flat stone, between two trees. We were right!

A big thank you to Eric & Christine Brackenbury, for the custom - made awards, and to the many hands that worked several days to prepare the sections and mark the course.

Class winners were:

C line: Grant Tomkinson, Yamaha, 7 points, out of retirment and a B rider next year, no sandbagging here, but watch out for Tomkinson Junior;
B line: Shaun O'Reilly, who had the longest drive of any competitor, and used up two bikes, 21 points;
A line: Stephane Fontaine, who also rode many A+ lines, Gas Gas, 50 points;
A+ line: Dave Southam, Montesa, fresh from organizing the National Round at Arden, 38 points.

Gary Neff Yamaha 30
Shaun O'Reilly Hontaco 21
Anon Lachance Gas Gas 68
Mike Snider Yamaha 76
David Southam Montesa 38

It was notable that there was an spread between oldest rider and youngest of more than 50 years, and the same can be said of the machines ridden!

The event was capped with the presentation of a framed photo collage covering the 25 years of trials at this location to the writer -- the best prize I could hope for. Thanks again to all!
