It was a sombre occasion on Sunday for the CVMG spring trials at Lanark, after the week’s unfortunate developments. Perhaps the glum “traditional trials” weather we experienced was fitting, but the rain stopped and allowed us to run a great event . Sadly, our original hope of seeing Dave Makin out the event was not to be, but he and his family were in out thoughts and he will be badly missed. Despite the tough timing we know he would have wanted us to continue.
We had 13-14 potential starters for the event, however a few of us were suffering from early-season mechanical cobwebs and were unable to start. Dave would have been happy with the turnout of machinery however, with a nice cross-section of British four strokes plus Spanish and Japanese two strokes very reminiscent of early trials events there. Many thanks to the Quebec contingent of Eric Pritchard, Steve Tucker, J.P. Larocque and Brian Hunt for coming out, honouring Dave’s memory and generally keeping things interesting!
The O’Reilly clan was back out, as was the TY squad and Yves Doyon with his old SWM now back in his possession.
With the wet weather the A line proved a bit tough in places prompting a number of riders to take the still challenging B line, resulting in a pretty tight spread of points looking for class honours, as noted below.
Line Rider Machine Score
A Mike O’Reilly Yamaha 37
A J. P. Larocque Bultaco 55
