Duh! Took almost 40 years to learn this trick...

In 1985, I got my first off-road bike with removable subframe. Lot of bikes before that with one-piece frame, every off-road bike except one since then has also had a removable subframe.

Very early I learned (likely from a magazine, remember those?) that you usually don't need to remove the subframe completely - just remove the lower subframe bolts, loosen the top subframe bolts, loosen the air boot clamp and rotate up. On some bikes you can even leave the silencer bolted to the subframe. Then use a bungie cord or tiedown to hold it up. Generally worked well, but would flop if you bumped it, etc.

Well, I was looking up something for my new bike and ran across the obvious alternative - once rotated up, just tighten the two top bolts 🤷‍♂️.

Second photo is my first removable subframe, 1985 KTM 350.
