I have done the Algonquin ride a few times it has allways been an excellent ride, but the last one I did was 2yrs ago and personaly I thought that there was way too much road that year.
Did anyone do it last year if so how was it?Was it any better than 2004?
I love rideing in that area but only if there is less road work.
Any coments on last years ride would be appreciated.
Thanks AL.D

I rode it last year with my 17 yr old son and we found it very enjoyable as well. I like the way they rate the trails because you can pick the trails that best suit your skill level . We didn't try anything over a 4.0 rating. There was a long paved road section to finish off the 2nd day but I hope to go back again this year

I ride the Algonquin every other year or so and like Calabogie, it remains one of the marquis events in the Ontario Trail ride series. There are always road sections to deal with...you can't loop up 200 km of single track (in one seamless route) in this part of the country. You will always have to expect some road sections and will always need a bike geared to be at least semi-comfortable on these legs. Most trail/enduro bikes should be fine but this isn't a trials or hare sramble.

I'm not sure if the amount of roads has changed that much...the last time I did it was particularly hot, extremely dusty and a little unpleasant at times. I think that just makes them seem longer...but the beer tastes that much better at the end of the ride and its a great event!

I co-chair the event. Yep..too much road is a problem. Last year we put in a new section that cut out a section of road..it was called "Death Valley". It is a very tough section 5 out of 5. It cut down the road but pretty much killed all the riders. I'm pretty sure Saturday 2006 will be similar to 2005 just backwards. There is a trail close to the start that I want to check out, it may be a good trail. Sunday should be different than previous years. Richard and I rode a good loop of about 100k going towards Barrys Bay that was pretty decent but we will need a gas truck to do it. I plan on going up and riding the two loops on the last weekend of May. I'll put an update on then.

Yep Doug is right Roads are the Evil to get to the good stuff :? in this part of the Country.

This year is all different...Sat and Sun.
Sat. will be the best trails of last year combined into one day including the famous "Valley of Death" run backwards which will be harder!!!
All this will mean less road, more trail.

Sun. is a all new 120km section with only about 10% of that being gravel road, the rest is really nice trail from ATV wide to Sled wide with lots of rock to keep you bouncing around....really fun day.

Well we pre-rode the trails on the weekend and am happy to say they are in good shape. Still have to go and clear a hell of a lot of face slapper stuff but there is very little else to fix. We rode about 200k on Sat (all options) and 120 on Sunday. I think that 200 will be cut back.we will see. Only a very few short sections of pavement on Saturday and no pavement on Sunday. The new owner of AllStar is concerned as very few people have booked a campsite so if your coming it would help if you call him. The police stopped me on Sunday but they were o.k. just wanted to know whats going to be going on etc. They seem to have no problem with us being there as long as when we are on the roads we behave..just ride it no wheelies, slides that sort of thing. I'll post more info when we've fine tuned things over the next couple of weeks.

Looks good for this weekend. Long range weather forecast looks good, the new owners of AllStar assure me that dinner will be great. The trails are great, lots of optional sections, the most ever. Sunday's ride is on all new trail for a change. I've posted each days trail info on the ODSC website and will have copies at the start. There are still a couple of sections on Sundays ride to clean up. I'll be out there early Friday, with whoever shows up, to try and cut back some of the bush. Hope to see you there.

Thanks Al

Glad to hear you will be back next year

I wish there was a lot of volunteers but that is NOT the case. At most we (me and Bill) would only get 2 extra bodies and one day it was only me out there plotting the course....thats where with some local help I found the road course optional section.
For all the thanks follow the odsc link here http://www.odsc.on.ca/phpbb/viewtopic.p ... c&start=45

Thanks to all who participated in the ride and all the positive feed back received all weekend long.

Next years ride is set for June 23 and 24 2007 at Allstar Resort.
Follow the details here

over the coming year.

All cabins are taken but the motel room is avaliable (double bed)

If you want a trailer site book one NOW....prime sites are going fast.

Ian the new owner has assured me he, Jim and Chris will still be around (won't sell the place) next year, so we will not have to train new owners. (3 years running now) This will also make next years ride better as we can work together to make improvements.
Also Ian made a special trip over here from England this past week to participate/host our event. Ian was also VERY impressed in how we ALL behave wilst at the campground....very responsible lot we are, so Kudos to you all :!: :!: :!:

Much Thanks to all and see you's at the Calaboogie ride

We only have enough help for the actual event that we have two pre-riders (Richard and myself) and we split up and ride different sections so we only see each other a few times along the route. We had 4 sweeps which is o.k but even they split up and pull arrows. I had one guy, Paul, come out to help clear 14k of trail on the Friday before the event. He couldn't believe the amount of branches that needed to be cut. Even when we were done it was still a bit rough but way way better than it was. Every year I think about calling it quits but hey, someones gotta do it.
